Junior Systems Administrator

Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Systems Administrator to join our IT team in Hampton, VA. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology, a desire to learn, and experience in system administration. This role will provide the opportunity to work with a variety of technologies and to support the day-to-day operations of our IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, networks, and related hardware and software.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Provide technical support to end-users, including hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
  • Perform regular system updates and backups.
  • Document system configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Support the deployment of new technologies and systems.
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate degree and 2 years of experience or High School diploma and 5 years of experience in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in system administration or a related role.
  • Basic understanding of network protocols, firewalls, and security.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Basic knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
